Italian Mid-Century Alfredo Barbini Murano Hand-Blown Bullicante Art Glass Ashtray Bowl in Plum
Regular price $375.00 Sale price
This hand-blown artful glass bowl from the Murano islands north of Venice, Italy. Most commonly bought by American tourists in the mid 50's through 60's and transported to the States. Many artisans such as Alfredo Barbini, Salviati, Archimede Seguso, adopted the northern island's most popular technique, "bullicante" which is a glass blowing method of entrapping tiny air bubbles within the glass to create unique pattern variations. This particular piece is in a beautiful almost opaque translucent red based plum with bullicante throughout the thick "biomorphic" glass that has an ever so slight lip that curves in two places allowing this decorative bowl to second as an ashtray, another in demand object from the mid 20th century. Nonetheless, a true piece of hand made art that desires to be seen in any common space.
